How to Reactivate a Dormant BPI Bank Account: My 2026 Experience

Hello, beshies! ๐ŸŒŸ Welcome back to another chat for our Money Matters section.
Today, let’s talk about that very relatable habit of saying "I'll do it tomorrow" until months — or in my case, years — fly by. Eme. True story: I recently had to reactivate my dormant BPI SaveUp account. It’s the classic account type that I physically opened at a branch years ago. It includes that free insurance feature based on the account's ADB (Average Daily Balance).
If I recall correctly, this account has been fast asleep since 2022. And yes, I only finally got around to fixing it now, in 2026! Talk about priorities, right? It really just slips your mind when life gets busy busy-han.
If you have a sleeping BPI account as well, don’t panic. Here is my real-talk experience and timeline on how I brought it back to life completely hassle-free.

Main Strategy: Go Straight to Your Home Branch

You can actually reactivate your account at any BPI branch, but here is a major pro-tip: Go directly to your Branch of Opening (Home Branch) as much as possible.
Why? Because that is where all your records are originally held. If you go to a different branch, they will still have to call your home branch to verify your identity and details, which will only slow down the entire process for you.
Since I originally opened this account at a mall branch, that’s exactly where I headed. I arrived even before the mall opened, making me the second person in line outside, but the absolute first in line for Customer Service! The guard started letting people in at exactly 10:00 AM, and I went straight in.

What to Bring and Show?

You don't need to bring a mountain of paperwork or your entire family. The Customer Service Representative (CSR) only asked for two things:
  • Your SaveUp Card (or Debit Card — this is crucial so they can easily pull up your account number in their database).
BPI Save-Up info card
BPI Save-Up Info Card.
  • One Valid ID (I used my UMID, and they didn't require any alternative IDs).

The Process & The "Plot Twist" System Downtime!

The process should typically be very quick. The CSR will just ask you to sit down, fill out a couple of forms for a signature update and info verification, and take a photo. I spent about 20 minutes waiting there.
But then came the plot twist! While I was there, BPI experienced a system-wide network outage. The luck, haha! ๐Ÿซ  Because the CSR couldn't process the reactivation in the system, she told me she would just text me once it was back up so I can complete the reactivation process by creating a monetary movement.
Since I was already at the mall with my family, we decided to just walk around and have an early lunch. We were almost on our way home, but luckily, the CSR texted me that the system was active again while we were still inside the mall! I headed right back to the branch to make the deposit.

A Physical Deposit and Zero Penalties!

I actually asked the CSR if I could just do an online transfer later. She said that was completely fine, but I would need to email them a screenshot of the transaction. Since I had PHP200 cash on hand anyway, I just gave her the cash to make the deposit right then and there.
She gave me my copy of the deposit slip, and the moment I checked my app — boom, it was instantly active and the deposit was already reflected!
The best part? I WASN'T CHARGED A SINGLE CENT! Zero fees! Why? Because even though it stayed dormant for over 3 years, the remaining balance in my account was still well above the required maintaining balance. So, yours truly was completely safe from dormancy penalties!

Real Talk Verdict

Overall, it was still a smooth experience. I guess it was a blessing in disguise that it was a mall branch, so I could just eat and chill while waiting out the system downtime.
As long as you bring your card so they can instantly search for your details in their database, it's a breeze! So if you have a dormant account currently gathering dust somewhere, go fix it this week. Your money deserves to be active again!
Do you have dormant accounts waiting to be fixed too, or am I the only forgetful one here? Let me know! ๐Ÿ‘‡
